7 Rebecca in the Science lab!

At the end of last week we began our chemistry unit in science, and conducted our first experiment!

For many of us this was our first time using the Bunsen burners, so we had to go through the safety procedures first. We then all had a chance to light the Bunsen burner ourselves! This was very exciting, and those of us who had used the Bunsen burners before were leaders, showing the others the correct way to do it.

Yuot and Ryan conducting the experiment.

The aim of our experiment was to see if we could change the boiling point of water. Normally water boils at 100 degrees Celsius, but we wanted to change it. We found that you can actually change it by adding different things to the water, like salt. This made the water easier to boil.

We can’t wait to conduct more experiments in the future!

What experiments have you conducted at school? What would you like to know about chemistry?

    • Hello, I’m Bren I go to manor lakes college in Australia, yes our Science is very intersting and it is so much fun. We have been doing chemistry since the start of the term and we have loved every minute of it! I hope this has helped you.

  1. I like the way that you guys do science and chemistry. It sounds really interesting and I see that you handle with a lot of chemicals.

  2. hey guys looks like your having fun we have a science specialist here we have rotations over 6 weeks right now in in hard materials .

  3. Hello Manor Lakes College
I am from fcia5hg1.blogspot.co.nz. It sounds like it was exciting using the Bunsen Burners and changing how quickly the water boiled with salt etc. I would love to do that. In our science class we do experiments but we don’t do ones like that. One of our experiments is when we drew a little dot on a handy towel and coloured the dot in, then we dipped the end into water and when the water hit the dot it moved and changed shades of colour and even formed into completely different colours all together.

  4. Hey A.F, Kristian and Lewis
I’m Luke from Manor Lakes College. Thanks for your wonderful feedback! We really do enjoy our time in the Science lab, and this week we covered the last field of Chemistry, Chromatography. Over the last six weeks, we have covered the six fields of Chemistry. They were Filtration, Distillation, Evaporation, Decantation, Crystallisation and now Chromatography.
Thanks for your feedback, and make sure you visit our class blog more often, and feel free to check out my blog as well.

  5. Hello my name is Kaltum. We do science every Thursday. We do experiments like crystallisation and decantation etc. We have so much fun doing this.

    Sincerely, Kaltum
